Environmental personnel strategy in the making

19/04/2006 -- 9:05 PM

Ha Noi (VNA) - The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has said it will fill the shortage of top scientific experts and implement preferential policies towards personnel in remote and disadvanged communities.
This is one of nine priorities that the ministry has set for 2006 as part of its comprehensive human resource development strategy for 2006-10 and the 2020 Vision, which were major topics of a symposium in Ha Noi on April 19.
The strategy aims to improve the working capacity and professional skill of each and every staff member, said the ministry's Personnel Department at the symposium sponsored by the Sweden-Viet Nam Cooperation Programme.
The absence of a comprehensive strategy on human resource development, including a plan for personnel training especially for professional staff at the district and village levels and preferential policies towards personnel in remote ares and on islands, have had an adverse impact on environmental work, the ministry said.
Also impacted are natural resources such as land, water, air and mineral ores, which have been greatly reduced in the recent past, it said.--Enditem
