Quang Ngai holds exercise in fighting bird flu in humans

Quang Ngai (VNA) - The central province of Quang Ngai organised an exercise on fighting avian influenza infection in humans on April 21 as part of its effort to prevent the fatal pandemic. A situation was staged in Nghia Chanh precinct of the town of Quang Ngai, in which a person was found to have symptoms of the H5N1 infection. The patient was examined at the precinct clinic and was transferred to the municipal healthcare centre. The number of patients rapidly increased to more than 20, with some of them dying. The National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology conducted quick tests on patients' blood samples, defining those samples positive for the H5N1 virus and discovering cases of human-to-human communication. Participating in the exercise were three mobile teams, each of which consisted of six doctors and nurses of the provincial preventive medicine centres and district clinics, who were fully equipped with facilities to quickly supervise, isolate and tackle the pandemic.-Enditem
