Capital aims to keep birth rate under 1.1 percent

09/05/2006 -- 12:09 PM

Ha Noi (VNA) - Ha Noi has worked out a plan to implement population and family planning projects through 2010, aiming to keep its birth rate between 1.05-1.1 percent.

The city has also strived to stabilise the rate of third-child births to under 5 percent and provide knowledge of reproductive health to 95-98 percent of young people and regular health care services to 90 percent of elderly people.

To reach these targets, municipal authorities have asked administrations at grassroots levels to strictly carry out project tasks and to impose severe punishments on State employees who violate the policy on population and family planning.

The administrations have also been required to promote the dissemination of information and education about family planning, as well as to improve the quality of family planning services amongst the local population.

In another initiative, the city has launched a series of programmes and projects to prevent malnutrition, develop public health care services, reduce poverty and generate jobs for local labourers.-Enditem
