Health Ministry tightens control of vaccine imports

Ha Noi (VNA) - All vaccines and biological medical products to be imported into Viet Nam must meet the World Health Organisation's (WHO) and the Vietnamese Health Ministry's requirements for quality, origin, procedures and regulations and as well as time limit of two thirds of the period of use, said Health Minister Tran Thi Trung Chien on June 13.

The ministry also required that the Preventive Medical Department and the Department for Medical Equipment and Projects grant permit decisions to importers within 15 days of receiving their applications for import of vaccines, medical biological products, chemicals, insecticides and sterilization products for healthcare or medical equipment.

The Health Ministry also issued guidance for the import of vaccines, medical biological products, chemicals, insecticides and medical equipment. The ministry assigned the Preventive Medical Department, the Department for Medical Equipment and Projects, the Healthcare Inspectorate, the National Institute for Vaccine and Medical Biological Product Verification and local public health services to verify quality, standards and procedures to help facilitate the import of these products.

The ministry also provided detailed regulations on vaccines and biological medical products that have not been registered for circulation but provided for Viet Nam as relief by international organisations such as WHO and UNICEF; and procedures for registration for circulation of vaccines and medical biological products.-Enditem
