25/06/2006 -- 9:39 PM

Kien Giang (VNA) - The authorities of southern Kien Giang province of Viet Nam and the Cambodian Kampot province have conducted a survey on their border gates and plan to upgrade the existing border gates along the two provinces.

The survey was conducted under an agreement between the Viet Nam-Cambodia's joint-governmental committee.

Deputy Chairman of Kien Giang People's Committee Ha Van Phong and Deputy Mayor of Kampot province Soth Dia agreed to propose their governments to upgrade the Xa Xia border gate in Kien Giang and the Prek Chak in Kampot to an international standard in order to boost socio-economic development in the border areas.

The two sides also suggested the conversion of two sub-border gates namely Giang Thanh and Dinh Market in Kien Giang province and Ton Hon and Thnot-Chong-Srong in Kampot to major ones and to set up four more sub-border gates along the two provinces.

The local authorities of the two border provinces also discussed issues relating to import-export and security in order to build a peaceful and friendly border area between Viet Nam and Cambodia.-Enditem
