HCM City (VNA) - Ho Chi Minh City welcomed 1.15 million foreign visitors in the first half of this year, a 16 percent year-on-year rise.
The city's ten largest tourist markets were the US, Taiwan, Japan, the Republic of Korea (RoK), Australia, China, Canada, France, Singapore and Britain. Highest increases were seen in the number of visitors from Russia (60 percent), Singapore (40 percent) and the RoK (30 percent).
The increase of tourists to the city showed that the city is an ideal, safe and friendly destination for holiday-makers from all over the world.
Visitors to the city by car are on the rise, thanks to the upgrade of the trans-Asian highways. The number of arrivals in the city by ship also rose by 140 percent compared to the same period last year.
Nguyen Thi Lap Quoc, Director of the city's Tourism Service, said that in addition to the advertisement of Vietnamese tourism in foreign markets, HCM City has improved the quality of and diversified its tourist services and opened new tours.
The city's tourism sector has so far this year grossed a turnover of 7,600 billion VND, representing a 26 percent annual increase.-Enditem
