26/06/2006 -- 11:03 AM

Bangkok (VNA) - Viet Nam 's economy will surpass Thailand 's in the next five years unless the private sector boosts its efficiency, Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak has warned.

Speaking at a public and private partnership meeting in Cha-am, the resort district of Phetchaburi, on June 25, Somkid said competitiveness, human resources and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) were the key areas which needed improvement.

Mr Somkid urged the Thai organisations concerned to quickly improve their performance instead of relying on the government's help, according to “The Bangkok Post” newspaper.-Enditem
