Ha Noi Party Secretary elected National Assembly Chairman

Ha Noi (VNA) - Prof. Dr. Nguyen Phu Trong, Secretary of the Ha Noi Party Committee, was elected Chairman of the National Assembly on June 26 at the ongoing ninth session of the 11th National Assembly. In his speech, the new NA Chairman, who was born in 1944, promised to do his utmost along with other NA deputies to continue the renewal and improvement of the NA's policy making, supervision and decision on important issues in the country. He said all these efforts aimed to make the NA worthy as the ultimate organ of the State and the highest representative of the people, meeting the requirements of the revolutionary cause in a new age. Chairman Trong expressed the wish to receive assistance from the NA deputies and close collaboration with members of the NA Standing Committee as well as regular cooperation from other agencies. He also stressed that the support from voters and people nationwide as well as the experience of his predecessor Nguyen Van An would help him to fulfill his tasks. On behalf of the NA Standing Committee, Chairman Trong recommended Nguyen Minh Triet, who is Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, as the next State President. The NA will vote on this position on June 27 and the results of the election will be announced on the same day.-Enditem
