Dung pledged in his speech to speed up administrative reform to build a State that is governed by law and committed to democracy.

Priority should be given to building a clean, strong and people-servicing Government which will focus on the key tasks of cracking down on corruption and minimising the bureaucracy in the coming term, the new PM said.

Also during the day, the newly-elected Prime Minister presented report for the top national legislation body to consider and approve the releasing of eight cabinet members from their positions, either due to age or discipline reasons.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan, 69, Minister of Defence Pham Van Tra, 71, and Foreign Minister Nguyen Dy Nien, 71, had asked for not being a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) in the 10th tenure, citing age reasons and their requests were accepted by the Politburo and the Central Committee in the 9th tenure.

Their requests to resign from positions in the government were also accepted by the Prime Minister and submitted to the National Assembly for approval.

PM Dung submitted several proposals for the releasing of Nguyen Sinh Hung from his post as Minister of Finance, Pham Quang Nghi from the Minister of Culture and Information, and Quach Le Thanh from the Governmental Chief Inspector. They will be reassigned to new tasks.

Dung said the Minister of Education and Training, Nguyen Minh Hien has submitted a letter of resignation, which the Prime Minister agreed to present to the National Assembly for consideration.

The letter of resignation of Minister of Transport, Dao Dinh Binh, was accepted by the Prime Minister and submitted to the National Assembly for approval. Binh has been held responsible for several scandals in his ministry, especially the scandal in Project Management Unit 18 which occurred for many years before it was discovered. Binh took his responsibility seriously and accepted discipline.

On June 28, the National Assembly will consider and vote on releasing the Cabinet members and elect the General State Auditor and any new Cabinet members.--Enditem
