Viet Nam keeps bird flu under control

Ha Noi (VNA) - The avian influenza endemic in Viet Nam has been successfully contained, said the Director of the Ha Noi Veterinary Department at a conference on July 10 to review bird flu prevention work.

According to the Director, Bui Quang Anh, 63 out of 64 cities and provinces across the country have so far vaccinated 131.4 million birds. Ho Chi Minh City is the only locality exempt from the massive vaccination drive as it did not raise un-vaccinated poultry.

From now up to the end of this year, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will focus on the restructure of the farming industry, including waterfowl raising activities, in all localities as part of its anti-bird flu drive for 2006-2007, said Minister Cao Duc Phat.-Enditem
