Bio-product brings new hope to farmers

12/07/2006 -- 6:39 PM

Ha Noi (VNA) - A pilot project to use bio-products in rice and vegetable cultivation has brought positive results in restoring soil fertility and improving products' quality, said Vice Director of the Institute of Bio-Technology Tran Dinh Man.

Under the project which was carried out for two years in Gia Loc district of northern Hai Duong province and Xuan Truong district of northern Nam Dinh province, scientists used bio-product to turn rubbish into organic fertiliser while dipping seeds and roots into bio-product solution for disease resistance.

Test-use of the product made by the institute showed that bio-product and fertiliser made from the product have helped increase from 15 to 20 percent in vegetables' output and from seven to 10 percent in rice yield. The quality of soil has increased considerably after the experimental cultivation.

The implementation of the project is currently being expanded to create trademarks for safe rice and vegetables in the two provinces.-Enditem
