Fixed-line phone use grows

HCM City (VNA) - The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) reported that the average annual growth in land-line telephone subscriptions in Viet Nam over the past five years had reached 44 percent, the world's highest level.

The average rate in Asia was 11.9 percent while the world-wide rate was 5.3 percent in the same period, it reported.

Other Asian countries reporting strong growth in subscriptions were South Korea, at 25.1 percent, and China, at 19.3 percent.

Viet Nam's average annual growth rate for mobile phone subscriptions between 2000 and 2005 was 62.7 percent, compared to 38.4 percent in China, 30.75 in Malaysia, 9.8 percent in Singapore, and 7.4 percent in South Korea.-Enditem
