Localities urged to finalise 2nd phase vaccination plans

Ha Noi (VNA) - The Steering Committee for the Control of Bird Flu and Foot and Mouth Disease has asked localities to finalise their plans for vaccination and usage of bird flu vaccine in the second phase between 2007 and 2008. According to the Veterinary Department under Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, 27 provinces and cities have given the first shots to almost 33 million poultry during the second round of bird flu vaccinations this year. Forty-eight provinces and cities nationwide have also administered foot and mouth vaccine to around 3 million cattle and more than 1.5 million pigs. The department has been collaborating with local authorities to inspect the vaccinated poultry and no new cases of bird flu have been detected so far this year. A total of 109 communes in 45 districts of 11 provinces and cities where infections from foot and mouth disease had occurred have yet passed the 21 days required for official clearance from the disease.-Enditem
