30,000 men provided with counselling on HIV/AIDS

Ha Noi (VNA) - As many as 30,155 men in the capital city of Ha Noi have been provided with counselling services on HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.

The figure was reported at a conference held on Sept. 19 to review the first phase of the Family Health International (FHI)-funded "Men's health" project, which has been implemented since early 2006 by the municipal chapter of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in coordination with the health and public security sectors.

Under the project, volunteers distributed leaflets and free condoms, and introduced counselling services on health, tests and ways to prevent HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases to local men, especially those in districts where there are a lot of entertainment centres and universities.

The project formed part of the national effort to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS in Ha Noi and Viet Nam.-Enditem
