Average height of Vietnamese increases, says study

27/09/2006 -- 11:41 AM

Ha Noi (VNA) - The average height of Vietnamese people has increased by 1-2 cm every ten years, according to a local nutrition agency.

In its recent study, the National Institute of Nutrition under the Ministry of Public Health also revealed that the average height of urban citizens, at 160 cm, is 1.6 cm higher than that of residents in rural areas.

The institute said malnutrition is one of the major causes leading to low increases in height in the development stages of children.

To increase people's height, therefore, priority should be given to preventing malnutrition among children, said the institute.-Enditem
