Youngest liver graft patient in stable health condition

17/12/2006 -- 9:34 PM

Ha Noi (VNA) - Viet Nam's youngest liver transplant patient is in stable condition one day after the surgery, Deputy Director of the Ha Noi-based National Hospital of Paediatrics Nguyen Van Loc said on Dec. 17.

The 10-month-old girl Tran Hoai Thu, from the northern port city of Hai Phong, was suffering from an inborn bile duct atrophy. She received part of the liver from her 54-year-old grand mother.

This was the third liver transplant operation performed by the National Hospital of Paediatrics within the past one year and a half, and the sixth of its kind in Viet Nam. The operation was conducted by 30 surgeons of Viet Nam and the Republic of Korea.

Loc said the operation lasted longer than scheduled due to some complications in both the liver donor and the recipient.
Thu is now in special care in the separate room. Meanwhile, the liver donor has regained consciousness and is in stable health condition.-Enditem
