Survey: 75,000 cancer-related deaths in Viet Nam each year

21/12/2006 -- 3:39 PM

Ha Noi (VNA) - A recent survey has revealed that about 150,000 cancer patients are detected in Viet Nam each year while 75,000 others died of the disease, according to an official from the Tumour hospital (K) in Ha Noi.

They mainly suffer from cancers of lung, liver, rectum, breast, stomach and cervix, said Nguyen Ba Duc, the hospital's director.

However, only two hospitals in Viet Nam are currently capable of giving cancer treatment, including the K hospital and the Ho Chi Minh City-based tumour hospital.

Additionally, medical equipment in service of cancer treatment is insufficient and obsolete, which is considered a major reason behind the increasing number of cancer-related deaths in Viet Nam.-Enditem
