US provides HIV/AIDS drugs to Vietnamese military hospital

Ha Noi (VNA) - The United States President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) has launched an antiretroviral therapy programme at the Military Hospital 103 of the Viet Nam's People's Army, according to the US Embassy in Viet Nam.

Under the programme, free antiretroviral (ARV) drugs will be available for HIV/AIDS-infected military personnel and civilians at Hospital 103. This critical ARV therapy will help improve the health and extend the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS.

The new ARV therapy programme at Hospital 103 is part of a country-wide HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment programme funded by PEPFAR funds are earmarked for the Military Medical Department of the Viet Nam People's Army, working in collaboration with the US Department of Defence's Pacific Command and its executing agency the Centre of Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance.

Military Hospital 103 is the first of several military sites to receive support from PEPFAR to enhance HIV/AIDS care and treatment capacity within the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence's healthcare network, through collaboration with the US Department of Defence.-Enditem
