First kid implanted with heart pacemaker

24/01/2007 -- 11:59 AM

HCM City (VNA) - Doctors at the Paediatrics Hospital No. 1 in Ho Chi Minh City on Jan. 23 performed surgery to implant a pacemaker in a four year-old child to help normalise her heartbeat.
The child, known as T for short, became the first child to live permanently with the pacemaker.

T was found to be suffering from chronic heart block when she was two years old.

The pacemaker helps the child's heart restore its near normal rate of around 85 beats per minute. Previously, T's heartbeat was 40-50 per minute.-Enditem
