Viet Nam, Japan reach deal on high-tech park

07/02/2007 -- 10:23 PM

Ha Noi (VNA)- The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will help Viet Nam in updating the general zoning of a Ha Noi high-tech park and planning prioritised projects under an agreement signed in Ha Noi on Feb. 7.

The eight-month deal on the Lang Hoa Lac Park will enable Viet Nam to conduct surveys on the existing conditions of the park, thus giving creditable analysis on investment problems and solutions to adjust the general planning to the reality.

The Vietnamese Government pledged to create best available conditions for JICA and its partners and meet all requirements for the project to run smooth.

The Vietnamese side will set up a Steering Board and a taskforce, involving a number of relevant agencies such as the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Government Office and the Lang-Hoa Lac Park's Managerial Board. These authorities will be responsible for supervising and evaluating the research programme. They will work directly with the Japanese partners.

Nguyen Van Lang, Chief Executive of the Lang Hoa Lac Park's Managerial Park, said the Park has since 1998 attracted over 300 billion VND (18.75 million USD) in investment, not to mention over 140 Japanese businesses who arrived to conduct feasibility study for their possible projects.

The Park leader pledged to clear the ground on 600 ha by the second quarter of 2008, out of its 1,650 ha marked off by the Government in 1998.

The agreement on the Lang-Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park was in furtherance of the Viet Nam-Japan joint statement signed by the two Government leaders on Oct. 19, 2006, which called on the two countries to enter a strategic partnership for a peaceful and prosperous Asia.--Enditem
