Military centre finds pesticide treatment method

13/02/2007 -- 11:27 AM

Ha Noi (VNA) - The Environment Treatment Technology Centre under the Ministry of Defence has reported that it has found a method to turn pesticides into environmentally-friendly solid waste and sewage.

The technology uses a two-phase incinerator to burn pesticides with certain additives and catalysts.

Substances remaining after the burning process are further treated, using the chemical and physico-chemical or mixed into concrete and ceramics.

Viet Nam imports 6,500-9,000 tonnes of pesticides in the form of end-products and materials for making pesticides every year alongside a large volume of products smuggled into the country. There also exist many outdated stocks that need to be destroyed.-Enditem
