Malaysia receives record of 17.5 million tourists in 2006

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysia received a record of 17.5 million foreign travellers in 2006, earning about 10.3 billion USD, Minister of Tourism Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said on Feb. 24.

Of that total, tourists from Singapore , Thailand , Indonesia and Brunei account for 77.2 percent. The number of travellers from other countries has strongly increased with 439,000 from China ; 354,000 from Japan and 279,000 from India .

In 2007, Malaysia will strive to attract about 20 million international travellers and obtain a total turnover of 12.7 billion USD, the minister said.-Enditem
