Hai Duong controls new bird flu outbreak

Hai Duong (VNA) - A new bird flu outbreak confirmed in Thanh Mien district, northern Hai Duong province on Feb. 17 has been put under control, according to a top agricultural official.

The lethal avian influenza virus was found in some 10,500 chickens, said Cao Duc Phat, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), at a meeting held on Feb. 26.

Right after discovering the outbreak, local veterinary forces culled all affected poultries and disinfected bird flu-hit area.

According to Nguyen Huu Duong, director of the provincial department of agriculture and rural development, the outbreak was immediately reported to the Veterinary Department under the MARD after being detected.-Enditem
