Sweden provides 2.6 mil. USD for child-related project in Laos

Vientiane (VNA) - The Swedish government has provided 2.6 million USD for the second phase of a child-related project in Laos (2007-2009).

The Swedish-funded project aims to build a legal system and to protect children and make school system more child-friendly. It will be carried out in Vientiane capital city and 10 provinces.

The project was signed in Vientiane on Feb. 26 by Bounpheng Mounphosay, Vice Chairwoman of the National Committee for Mothers and Children, and Annlis Aberg, Charge d'Affairs of the Swedish Embassy in Laos .

The first phase of the project, which aimed to implement the International Convention on the Rights of the Child and was worth worth more than 477.000 USD, was carried out during 2002 and 2006.--Enditem
