Britain to raise aid for Indonesian calamity victims

Jakarta (VNA) - The British government will increase its assistance for earthquake and tsunami victims in Indonesia’s Aceh and Nias, from 33 million sterling pounds to 38.5 million sterling pounds (75 million USD), local media said. The commitment was made in a meeting of the Aceh international conference’s steering committee on Feb. 26, chief of the British Department for International Development (DFID)'s representative office in Indonesia , Shantanu Mitra, was quoted by Indonesia ’s Antara news agency as saying. The aid is aims at helping ensure the success of post-earthquake and tsunami rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in Aceh and Nias, he added.-Enditem
