Plan to boost copyright management

08/05/2007 -- 10:17 PM

Ha Noi (VNA) - The Ministry of Culture and Information and the Ministry of Home Affairs have pledged to aid the establishment of more copyright management organisations with the aim of promoting copyright protection in the country.

Representatives from the two ministries made the comments at a workshop in Ha Noi on May 8 to review the week of copyright management groups already operating in Viet Nam.

Viet Nam now has three copyright watchdog groups, including the Music Copyright Protection Centre under the Viet Nam Musicians’ Association, the Viet Nam Literature Copyright Centre and the Recording Industry Association.

Only the Music Copyright Protection Centre has been operating efficiently with two branches in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City. Observers point to the fact that while obtaining positive results the Centre is critically understaffed with a skeleton staff of just 17.-Enditem
