Major newspapers highlight State President’s US visit

Ha Noi (VNA) – State President Nguyen Minh Triet’s US visit is an important event that contributes to building a stable, firm and long-term relationship between Viet Nam and the US, said editorials on Viet Nam’s big newspapers on June 18. The national Nhan Dan daily ran an editorial entitled "Promoting the Viet Nam-US Relationship", saying that the official visit to the US by a head of state of Viet Nam reflects the country's consistent foreign policy of independence, openness, diversification and multilateralisation of international relations. The visit is also a good chance to promote the image of a beautiful, dynamic and friendly Viet Nam country which is undergoing strong renewal and active integration into the international economy, the paper said. Since Viet Nam and the US established diplomatic ties in July 1995, the relationship between the two countries has been increasingly strengthened, especially in trade and investment, the editorial said, adding that several remaining differences in terms of democracy and human rights, are small as compared to the two countries' common interests and should be addressed through dialogues. The paper stressed that trade-economic relations is the focus in the relationship between Viet Nam and the US. The national daily also hailed the important role that more than 1.5 million Vietnamese nationals living in the US have played in developing the Viet Nam-US relationship. The State President’s visit is expected to deliver a stronger and more specific message of national harmony to the US-based Vietnamese community, said the paper. ”Enhancing the effectiveness and stability of Viet Nam-US relations” is the title of an editorial carried by the Quan doi Nhan dan (People’s Army) daily the same day, which described President Nguyen Minh Triet’s visit as a milestone in bilateral ties. The editorial said that the trip would surely create a momentum to open up a new period of development in the Viet Nam-US relationship to the direction of efficiency and stability, thus benefiting not only the two nations, but also the prosperity and security in the Asian-Pacific region and the world at large. The capital city’s major daily - Ha Noi Moi - shared this view, saying that President Triet’s visit will serve as an impetus to beef up the multi-faceted cooperation between Viet Nam and the US, particularly in the fields of economics, trade and investment.-Enditem
