06/07/2007 -- 10:21 PM

Ha Noi (VNA) – The Viet Nam-US Association hosted a get-together in Ha Noi on July 6 to mark the 231st Independence Day of the US (July 4).

Addressing the function, US Ambassador to Viet Nam Michael W. Marine singled out the Viet Nam-US Association in promoting the ties between the two peoples.

The US diplomat described US President Bush’s visit to Viet Nam in November 2006 and President Nguyen Minh Triet’s visit to the US in June 2007 as important events in the two countries’ relationship.

The Viet Nam-US Association Chairman, Dang Vu Minh, said the year 2007 witnessed new steps forward in the Viet Nam-US ties. Bilateral ties for mutual benefits have won increasing support from the two countries’ political and business circles, war veterans, social and charitable activists as well as the public.

He also took the occasion to hail the two nations’ effective cooperation in healing the wounds left by the war and fostering bilateral friendship and cooperation.-Enditem
