AFC chief supports Viet Nam’s football development

0708TRIET.jpgHa Noi (VNA) - President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Mohamed Bin Hammam has affirmed strong support for Viet Nam’s football development both financially and technically.

AFC President Hammam, who is in Ha Noi to watch the Group B opening of the Asian Cup between host Viet Nam and the United Arab Emirates, made the statement at a meeting with State President Nguyen Minh Triet on July 8.

The head of the Asian football governing body congratulated Viet Nam’s impressive progress in the field, citing the country’s advance to the third qualifying round of the 2008 Olympics as well as its first presence at the Asian Cup.

President Triet spoke highly of the contributions made by both President Hammam and the AFC to the region’s football development.

The State leader stressed that Viet Nam has done its utmost to catch up with the football development level in the region and the world and that the Vietnamese people do adore this game.

He urged AFC leaders to increase soccer exchanges between Asia and other continents in order to help regional countries accumulate experiences.-Enditem
