Dak Lak preserves gong culture

12/07/2007 -- 10:54 AM

Dak Lak (VNA) – The Central Highlands province of Dak Lak has earmarked 6 billion VND (375,000 USD) for a project to preserve local ethnic minorities’ gong culture which has been recognised by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

This was announced by the Dak Lak provincial Department of Culture and Information on July 10. The project, it said, to last until 2010, would conduct a survey on the number of gongs still existing in the province and players. It would also hold classes to train people in playing the instrument and buy a gong each for the province’s 150 community cultural houses.-Enditem
