NA to focus on cabinet in first session

13/07/2007 -- 9:53 PM

Ha Noi (VNA)- The 12 th National Assembly will spend much of its first session, scheduled to run from July 19 to August 6, on approving the personnel of the government's new terms in office.

Director of the NA Office Bui Ngoc Thanh made the announcement at a press briefing in Ha Noi on July 13.

He said the legislators would elect the NA Chairman, his deputies and members of the NA Standing Committee’s committees as well as the Nationality Council, the State President and his deputies, the Prime Minister and his cabinet as well as the Supreme People’s Court Chief Judge and the Director of the People’s Procuracy.

Hearings and assessments will also be heard on the performance of all of the assembly's deputies as well as reports on the progress made in implementing targets and State budgets in the first half of 2007 and measures to be taken for the rest of the year.

Tasks for the new NA Standing Committee, Chief Judge and Procuracy Director will also be ironed out as well as a bill on amendments and supplementations of the Anti-Corruption Law.

“The NA is set to approve a bill that will reduce the assembly's term from the current five years to four,” Thanh said.

He explained that the move aims to bring NA and People’s Council elections closer together, which are currently staggered two years apart and has been blamed as a major barrier in the realisation of some of the nation's socio-economic goals.--Enditem
