Vientiane (VNA) - A meeting to mark the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Laos-Viet Nam Friendship and Cooperation Treaty (July 18) and the 45th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries (September 5) was held in Vientiane, Laos, on July 17.
In his speech delivered at the meeting, Choummaly Sayasone, General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and State President, said that the Laos-Viet Nam Friendship and Cooperation Treaty is a foundation for solidarity, mutual assistance and trust between the two parties, states and people of Laos and Viet Nam.
"The two sides have worked closely and cooperated in external activities to create a favourable international environment for each country's national construction and defence as well as contribute to maintaining peace, friendship, stability and cooperation for the common interests of nations in the region and the world," he said.
The Lao President went on to say that in the spirit of the special solidarity and the promotion of independence, and self-reliance, Laos and Viet Nam have enhanced economic, cultural and scientific-technological cooperation, created favourable conditions for each other, and provided mutual assistance to support economic development and international integration of each country in a globalised world.
The Lao Party, Government and people are proud of and pleased with their cooperation with the Vietnamese Party, State and people in maintaining and promoting the special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two parties, states and people, regarding it as an indispensable rule for the development of the two countries as well as a treasure of the two parties, states and people, President Choummaly Sayasone said.
He continued to say that such relationship will be further strengthened, bringing fruitful achievements and development for the two countries.
The Party, State and people of Laos will spare no effort to join the Vietnamese Party, State and people in preserving and fostering the the Lao-Vietnamese traditional relations, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation, making it an invaluable estate for younger generations, the Lao President stressed. The Party, State and people of Laos described it their important obligation and noble honour, he said, affirming that Laos will stand side by side with Viet Nam in any circumstances.
Addressing the function, Truong Tan Sang, Politburo member of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee and head of the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation, said "looking back the development of Laos-Viet Nam relations over the past 45 years, especially over 30 years since the two countries signed the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty, we are proud to say that the special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Viet Nam have continuously been strengthened and developed, thus contributing to the cause of national construction and defence in each country."
The progress of the two countries bears the stamp of strong support from the other side, making the special Laos-Viet Nam relationship more solid and fruitful. The cooperation has become more concrete, deeper and effective in all fields, the Vietnamese party official said.
He stressed that, “Under the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, achievements Viet Nam has gained in more than 20 years of renewal process are comprehensive and of great significance. The economy grows at high rate, contributing to the improvement of people’s living conditions, while national security and defence is firmly maintained. All this has helped raise Viet Nam’s position in the region and in the world, he said.
“The Vietnamese government and people acknowledge that every victory by the Vietnamese revolution in the past as well as its achievements at present bears the hallmark of strong support and assistance from the Lao government and people."
“Our two Parties, States and peoples must be determined to maintain and develop our faithful and fine relations, which is an invaluable need for our future generations," he said quoting a saying by former President Kayson Phomvihan that mountains may wear out, rivers may run dry, but the Laos-Viet Nam relationship will last forever.-Enditem
