Ha Noi (VNA) – Viet Nam has granted Lao Vice President Bounnhang Vorachith the Gold Star Order, the country’s most highly prized decoration, for his contributions to boosting the two countries’ relationship.
Vietnamese State President Nguyen Minh Triet presented the order to the Lao Vice President, who is also member of the Political Bureau and standing member of the Secretariat of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee, in Ha Noi on July 17.
The hand-over of the order took place as one of a series of activities being held to mark the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 30th anniversary of the Viet Nam-Laos Friendship and Cooperation Treaty.
“The decision to award the Gold Star Order to Vice President Bounnhang Vorachith is a demonstration of gratitude and praise from the Vietnamese Party and State towards the Lao Party and State in general and the Lao Vice President in particular for his important contributions to consolidating and enhancing the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two parties, states and people,” President Triet said.
Vice President Bounnhang Vorachith said the decoration that he has received is the common achievement of the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two parties, states and people. It also reflects the Vietnamese Party, State and people’s confidence in the Lao Party, State and people.
President Triet earlier had a meeting with the Lao Vice President where he expressed his pleasure at Laos’ recent achievements.
The state leader proposed that the two countries increase their cooperation in all areas, with a particular emphasis on economics, diplomacy, defence, education, poverty reduction and Party building work.
The Lao Vice President said that Laos would do its utmost to look after the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
The same day, Vice President Bounnhang Vorachith met voluntary Vietnamese soldiers who joined battlefields in Laos at the Lao Embassy in Ha Noi.-Enditem
