HCM City vows to burgeon closer Viet Nam-Laos ties

18/07/2007 -- 11:28 AM

HCM City (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City has vowed to facilitate all conditions favourable to enhancing the special friendship between neighbours Viet Nam and Laos.

Le Thanh Hai, Secretary of the municipal Party Committee, reiterated the city’s resolve at a meeting on July 17 to mark the 30th anniversary of the Viet Nam-Laos Cooperation and Friendship Treaty (July 18) and the 45th founding anniversary of their diplomatic ties (Sept 5).

Hai said the relations between his city with two Lao sister localities, Vientiane capital city and Champassak province, have seen progress in various fields over recent years, especially in trade, health care and education.

The relations were manifested through programmes providing free-of-charge eye surgeries in Laos, training Lao students, as well as organising volunteer programmes for Vietnamese students and projects on agricultural development and poverty reduction in Lao localities.

Vientiane’s Major Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune emphasised that Laos has attached importance to the reinforcement of the solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with Viet Nam. “The rapport must be fortified deeply and expanded to all fields from central government to the grassroots level,” said the Lao official.

He also expressed thanks for the support and assistance from Viet Nam, especially HCM City, affirming that his country would intensify education for the younger generations to further enhance the two countries’ amity.

Coinciding with the meeting in Ho Chi Minh City, “Laos Culture Week in Viet Nam” and “Viet Nam Culture Week in Laos” were launched and broadcast live through a TV link between Ha Noi and Vientiane.

For the event, artists introduced songs, dances and traditional costumes typical of the two countries.-Enditem
