Ha Noi (VNA) - A Viet Nam-Laos sports meeting will be held in Vientiane, Laos, from July 22-25 as part of celebrations to mark the 45th anniversary of the two countries' diplomatic ties.
Speaking at a press conference in Ha Noi on July 18, Huynh Vinh Ai, Vice Chairman of the Viet Nam Physical Training and Sports Committee, said that Viet Nam would send 59 athletes to Laos to perform dance sport, the Vietnamese martial art of Vovinam and a series of friendly football matches.
Cultural, managerial and training delegations between border provinces such as Viet Nam's Quang Tri, Nghe An, Hai Duong, Binh Dinh and Dien Bien provinces and Laos' Xieng Khoang, Vientiane, Bolykhamsay, Savanakhet, Champassak, Phongsaly, Luangphabang and Udomxay will also be a focus of the week.
Ai noted that Viet Nam is committed to supporting Laos in training activities and in organising Laos upcoming hosting of the 25th South East Asian Games in 2009.
Viet Nam had previously aided its eastern neighbour in building a national training centre at a cost of 4 million USD.
Vietnamese sporting officials have also announced plans to train 83 Lao coaches and athletes to better prepare the country for this year's SEA Games in Thailand.-Enditem
