12th National Assembly begins first meeting

0719_QH.jpgHa Noi (VNA) - The first meeting of the 12th National Assembly began in Ha Noi on July 19, with elections defined to be top of its agenda.

Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh attended the opening ceremony and marked morning activities with a keynote speech.

After an opening speech delivered by NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong, a report on the May election results as voters nationwide elected 493 NA delegates, of whom 193 were reelected, was presented for the 12th National Assembly to decide on.

NA deputies will hear the NA Standing Committee's report on the numbers of deputy NA chairmen and members of the 12th NA Standing Committee so as to consider and make decision on the following days.

They will also hear a report on state budget for the first six months of this year and measures to fulfill budget tasks in the second half.

The NA's new deputies held a preparation session on July 18 to approve the agenda of their 12th meeting, under which their three week working session is to focus on elections, including that of the National Assembly Chairman, State President and Prime Minister.-Enditem
