25/07/2007 -- 4:49 PM

Ha Noi (VNA) – The newly-established New Zealand-Viet Nam Parliamentrians’ Friendship Group held its debut meeting in the New Zealand capital of Wellington, on July 24.

Attending the meeting were Wellington Vice Mayor Alick Shaw, Vietnamese Ambassador to New Zealand Tran Hai Hau and a group of overseas Vietnamese who are working and living in New Zealand.

Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Hau lauded the overdue establishment of the group on July 18 and stated that the Vietnamese Embassy is ready to get to work on developing the relationship between New Zealand and Viet Nam.

The group’s co-chairs, Dr. Richard Worth and Lesley Soper, went on to relay the importance that the New Zealand government has placed on the growing relationship it enjoys with its Southeast Asian partner.

They said they believe that the group will prove to be a valuable mechanism for the boosting of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.-Enditem
