26/07/2007 -- 5:45 PM

0726tbls150.jpgHa Noi (VNA) - Viet Nam marked the 60th anniversary of War Invalids and Fallen Soldiers Day on July 26, amidst calls from recently re-elected Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung for the country to do a better job of providing for war invalids and the families of soldiers killed in battle.

PM Dung went on to express on behalf of Viet Nam, the gratitude and appreciation that the nation holds for the invalids and families of the fallen combatants that made the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of the country.

He also urged the civil sector to ensure that socio-economic preferential policies be provided for veterans and their families while focusing on education, vocational training and the creation of employment opportunities for their children.

To date the state has on average spent more than 11 trillion VND on preferential subsidies for the more than 8.2 million effected people annually and have laid out programmes on education and training, tax exemptions, land packages and a bevy of healthcare initiatives.

Statistics have shown that through the subsidies over 85 percent of beneficiary families enjoy the same or higher standards of living than the average member of the public.-Enditem
