Viet Nam steels itself against corruption

27/08/2007 -- 4:58 PM

Ha Noi (VNA) - Viet Nam has ramped up its anti-corruption campaigns by establishing a series of steering boards that are charged with overseeing provincial and municipal administrations.

The move is one of the latest revisions to the Law on Corruption Prevention and Combat that won the 12th National Assembly deputies' endorsement at their first session on August 4.

In another shift, corruption scandals will now be handled by the Justice Committee of the National Assembly instead of the Law Committee.

The Law on Corruption Prevention and Combat took effect on June 1, 2006 after it was ratified at the 11th National Assembly's eighth session on November 29, 2005.-Enditem
