Tien Minh shuttles into US Open’s quarter-finals

Ha Noi (VNA) – Viet Nam’s number one badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh entered US Open Grand Prix’s quarter-finals after beating Canadian Bobby Milroy on Aug. 29 in Log Angeles.

Unseeded Tien Minh who is 45 th in the world defeated the tournament’s number seven in less than 33 minutes.

It was the second Milroy defeat at the hands of Tien Minh. The first was in the Proton Malaysia Super Series in January.

In the quarter-final round Tien Minh will play Richard Vaughan of Wales who is fourth seeded and triumphed over Carlos Longo 21-17, 21-19 in an earlier match.

Tien Minh is on his way to collecting enough points for a berth in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The American Grand Prix is one of seven tournaments where he will be able to accumulate points.

He is the only Vietnamese representative left at the Open after team-mates Quang Minh and Tran Thanh Hai were eliminated.

The US Open Grand Prix in Los Angeles runs until September 1.-Enditem
