Khanh Hoa (VNA) - Ngo Phuong Lan, a 20-year-old Vietnamese student in Switzerland, was crowned Miss World Vietnamese at a grand finale that was held in Nha Trang city, central Khanh Hoa province, on September 2.
The first runner-up was Teressa Sam, a 21-year-old Vietnamese from the UK, while the second runner-up spot went to Dang Minh Thu, 19, from the Red River Delta province of Nam Dinh.
The winner pocketed 20,000 USD while the first and second runner-ups were awarded 8,000 USD and 5,000 USD, respectively.
Meanwhile, Nguyen Cao Thu Van from the US, Nguyen Thi Van Anh from the SNG region and Nguyen Kang Wun Ching from Germany were crowned Miss Photogenic, Miss Sea and Miss Tourism, respectively.
Other awards were also handed over to Tran Ngoc Bich from the UK (Miss Best Costume); Anna Hua Ngoc Anh from the UK (Miss Ao dai); Chu Van Anh from Ha Noi (Miss Best Complexion); Nguyen Thi Anh Ly from Ha Noi (Miss Best Performance) and Ngo Phuong Lan (Miss Best Answer).
The pageant saw 37 finalists vie for the title after being picked from a preliminary pool of over 2,200 contestants in the qualifying rounds that were held in seven regions around the world.
The pageant organisers donated 100 million VND (6,250 USD) to Khanh Hoa province’s fund to support Agent Orange/dioxin victims and another 100 million VND to a fund for former members of the youth volunteer force who served during the liberation war.
The inaugural Miss World Vietnamese was organised by the Tien Phong (Vanguard) and Thanh Nien (Young People) newspapers, Viet Nam Television (VTV) and the Vinpearl joint stock company.-Enditem
