Hue to become Viet Nam's first festival city

Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) - The Government has approved a project to build Hue into the first Festival City in Viet Nam in an attempt to attract a greater number of tourist to the area.

The new plan will aid Hue build on its trademark, attract tourists and showcase the historical and cultural value of the city.

Beginning with the Viet Nam-France Cultural Festival in 1992, Hue has become a hugely destination for both domestic and foreign visitors. That was soon followed by the successes of the Hue Festival in 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2006.

A string traditional handicraft festivals have also been held recently that have had tour operators salivating at the city's ability to satisfy tourist demands.

Underscoring the tourism direction released by the municipality is a contract on cooperation for Thua Thien-Hue province until 2015 and vision through 2025 between the province and Singapore 's Akitek Tenggara company.

Under the agreement, Akitek Tenggara will develop 10 key projects to call for investors with the aim of turning Hue into a world renowned tourism spot.-Enditem
