Vietnamese, Lao parties look to closer ties

14/09/2007 -- 8:51 PM

Vientiane (VNA) – The Director of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV)’s Commissions for External Affairs Tran Van Hang was received by the General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and Lao State President Choummaly Sayasone in Vientiane on September 14.

The Lao leader expressed his satisfaction with the development of the Viet Nam-Laos comprehensive cooperation. He said the cooperation has received a boost in 2007 as various activities were organised to mark the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Viet Nam-Laos Treaty on Friendship and Cooperation and the 45th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between the two countries.

“These activities would help increase the mutual understanding between people, particularly young generations, of the two countries and contribute to fortifying the special ties between the two nations,” said the Lao leader.

The same day, Tran Van Hang held talks with his Lao counterpart Thongloun Sisoulith, who is also Foreign Minister, to discuss major developments in their respective Parties and countries recently. They also looked at measures to implement high-level bilateral agreements.

On behalf of the Vietnamese Party and State leaders, Hang presented friendship orders and medals to leaders and senior officials of the LPRP’s Commission for External Affairs.

During his stay in Laos from September 14-17, Hang and his entourage will visit several economic and cultural establishments in Vientiane and Luang Prabang provinces.-Enditem
