HCM City (VNA) - Viet Nam is gearing up to earn 12.9 billion USD in export turnover in the remaining months of this year to fulfil its yearly target of 48.1 billion USD, an increase of 20.5 percent over 2006.
A conference on export was held by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT) in Ho Chi Minh City on October 9 to discuss measures to complete the task.
According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Thanh Bien, agencies, localities and enterprises should crank up exports of products with further export potential such as textiles and garments, footwear, plastic, electrical appliances, electronic and computer components, furniture, fine art and handicrafts, and aquatic products.
The MIT pledged to assist businesses in dealing with hurdles in order to intensify their export activities.
According to the MIT’s Import-Export Department, Viet Nam earned around 35.2 billion USD in the first nine months this year, up 19.4 percent over last year.
The country plans to fetch 58.6 billion USD in 2008, a 22 percent increase over 2007.-Enditem
