Vietnamese MP to join IPU Executive Committee

Ha Noi (VNA) – Vice Chairperson of the Vietnamese National Assembly’s Committee for External Affairs Ngo Anh Dung and his counterpart Yoo Jay-Kun from the Republic of Korea (RoK) became the two Asian-Pacific representatives to be elected to the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) for the 2008-2011 term.

The election of the Vietnamese MP to the 16-member IPU Executive Committee was made in recognition of Viet Nam ’s active contributions to the IPU’s development.

Votes were held during the 117 th IPU Assembly that took place in Geneva , Switzerland , from October 6-10.

During the 117 th assembly, legislators from IPU member countries focused discussions on t he role of parliaments in striking a balance between national security, human security and individual freedom, in averting threats to democracy; dealing with issues of migrant workers and human trafficking; and the role of parliamentary oversight of state policies on foreign aid.-Enditem
