Party leader’s DPRK visit gets media spotlight

Ha Noi (VNA)- Major national newspapers on Oct. 16 all carry editorials on a visit to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea by the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, emphasising that the event would bring bilateral relations to a new height.

The daily Nhan Dan runs “The official friendship visit to the DPRK by Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh is evidence of the Vietnamese Party and people’s determination to unswervingly respect traditional relationships such as that with the DPRK. The relations have developed in the sprit of befriending and becoming trusted partners with other countries in the international community and working for peace, independence and development.”

The editorial continued by saying the visit is made amidst a trend the Korean peninsula and Northeast Asia that benefits peace, stability and cooperation in the Asian-Pacific region and the rest of the world. In this climate, the daily highlighted Viet Nam ’s role in easing tension, pushing for non-nuclearisation and peace and reunification of the two Koreas , and broadening regional cooperation in the interest of the two nations.

Headlined “New milestone in Viet Nam-DPRK relations,” an editorial on the army daily Quan Doi Nhan Dan predicted the CPV leader’s visit to the DPRK would be a success based on the traditional friendship between the two nations. It said the landmark visit would steer the friendship and cooperation between the two Parties, Governments and peoples to a new dimension.

Newspaper Ha Noi Moi (New Ha Noi) said it is the first visit made by a CPV General Secretary to the DPRK in 50 years since the one made by President Ho Chi Minh in July 1957.

“The visit will contribute to ushering in a new stage of development of stability and effectiveness in the traditional friendly and cooperative ties between the Parties and States of Viet Nam and the DPRK,” said the editorial.”--Enditem
