Vietnamese Party leader’s DPRK visit draws world opinion

Ha Noi (VNA) – Media in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and throughout the world are covering a visit to Pyongyang by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) Nong Duc Manh, the first visit made by a CPV General Secretary to the DPRK in 50 years.

Newspapers, radios and TV in the Northeast Asian nation have carried a bevy of articles and photos of a welcoming ceremony by DPRK leader Kim Jong-Il, who is Secretary General of the Korean Workers’ Party and Chairman of the National Defence Commission.

The Korean Central News Agency spoke highly of the visit’s significance, while the Rodong Sinmun newspaper said in its editorial that the visit is a great event aimed at strengthening and developing the friendship and opening a new era in relations between the two countries.

The Yonhap News Agency and other newspapers in the Republic of Korea also joined the chorus to cover the event, saying that the visit has drawn world attention in the context that the two Koreas have exerted their efforts in promoting peace and national reconciliation.

Meanwhile, China’s Xinhua News Agency, the Associated Press (AP), the Agence France Presse (AFP) said that the visit is aimed at boosting friendship and economic cooperation between Viet Nam and the DPRK, as well as strengthening the Southeast Asian nation’s position in the international arena.-Enditem
