Young people discuss GMS development

Ha Noi (VNA) – A conference was held in Ha Noi on October 27 to garner the youths’ opinions in fostering the cooperation among countries in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS).

This first ever national forum was held as the cooperation among GMS member countries has been bolstered in all fields.

Delegates at the conference discussed the cooperation between GMS countries and the role of the youths within this framework and put forward a national youth message on this issue.

The conference is held at each GMS member country with the aim of deepening the understandings of the young people about GMS as well as discussing advantages and disadvantages, and the roles of the youngsters within the GMS cooperation framework.

GMS groups Cambodia , Laos , Myanmar , Thailand , Viet Nam and the Yunnan province of China .

In 1992, the six partners started to join a cooperative programme aimed at speeding up economic development for the region and bolstering their cooperation with the assistance of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Notable projects under the programme include the upgrading of the East-West Economic Corridor from central Da Nang city of Viet Nam to Andaman beach of Myanmar , the North-South corridor linking Kunming province of China and Bangkok capital of Thailand , and the southern corridor connecting Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City.-Enditem
