China, Viet Nam target 15 billion USD in two-way trade

Nanning (VNA) – Viet Nam and China have agreed to take measures and maintain bilateral trade growth in order to realise their target of 15 billion USD in two-way trade by 2010.

The agreement was reached in Nanning , provincial capital of China ’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on October 27 during a meeting between Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Zeng Peiyan and visiting Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

PM Dung is in Nanning to attend the ASEAN-China investment-trade summit and exhibition. He is scheduled to pay an official visit to the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the province of Yunnan .

PM Dung and Deputy PM Zeng Peiyan also agreed that China will push up the export of machinery to Viet Nam while increasing its import of crude oil, coal and rubber from Viet Nam .

They said a treaty on animal and plant quarantine is needed to facilitate both sides’ import-export, contributing to a trade balance between the two neighbouring countries.

The host and the guest reached a consensus on finalising a five-year plan so as to implement an agreement on the expansion of the Viet Nam-China trade and economic cooperation and a memorandum of understanding on “two corridors and one economic belt.”

In regard to the territorial and border issues, the two sides agreed to boost the implementation of the agreements reached by high-ranking officials, with the aim of completing the demarcation and the planting of landmarks and signing a new agreement on border management in 2008.

They also agreed to build the Viet Nam-China border into the border of peace, friendship and cooperation for mutual development and to keep peace and stability on the East Sea .

PM Dung extended his congratulations on the success of the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which he said is an event of significance of the Party, State and people of China .

PM Dung affirmed that the Party, Government and people of Viet Nam always attach great importance to enhancing the mutual understandings and trust between the two Parties and States.

They were delighted that the friendship, neighbourliness and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties and States continue to develop in various fields.

On the evening of the same day, PM Dung met with Cambodian PM Hun Sen and Lao PM Bouasone Bouphavanh.-Enditem
