Nanning (VNA) –Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung called on Viet Nam ’s and China ’s businesses to continue to boost cooperation as it will strengthen friendship between the two countries.
He made the call during the Viet Nam-China Trade and Investment Cooperation Forum held in the city of Nanning , Guangxi, on October 28.
“On its part, the Vietnamese Government will do its best to promote cooperation between the two countries in all fields, particularly in economy, trade and investment,” PM Dung said.
He highlighted the coordination between the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Viet Nam Chamber of Trade and Industry, Chinese agencies and Guangxi province in organising such an event.
China is now Viet Nam ’s largest trader. The two countries’ two-way trade stood at 10.3 billion USD in 2006 and it reached 10.7 billion USD in the past nine months of this year. China has invested in 50 projects in Viet Nam with a total investment capital of more than 1.5 billion USD. At present, scores of investment projects between the two countries are under discussion.
Speaking at the forum, Chinese Deputy Trade Minister Gao Hu Cheng said the signed agreement on economic and trade development between the two countries and the memorandum of understanding to build two corridors and one economic belt constitute an important foundation in boosting the two countries’ economic ties.
Secretary of the Guangxi Party Committee Liu Qi Bao also said Guangxi places importance on its cooperation with Viet Nam and will strive to strengthen ties given Viet Nam is currently Guangxi’s biggest trade partner. In 2006, trade between Viet Nam and Guangxi totalled 1.46 billion USD, accounting for 80 percent of Guangxi’s import-export turnover.
A series of deals worth millions of US dollars were inked at the end of the forum that brought together 450 business people, including 200 from Viet Nam.-Enditem
